I went to a property that had a assortment of old derelict vehicles and chose this old truck to draw. I later learned that it is a Ford D-Series. Like most of the vehicles there... lots of rust. (How do you draw that?)
I have a book by Claudia Nice who does a lot of pen/ink and watercolour work. I have used this book many times as a reference on how to draw or more to the point add texture to drawings. The book has a section on Rust. It also has a section on bronze, silver, chrome, glass etc.
see my blog.. at http://cyberdave1.blogspot.com/search/label/misc for pages from the book.
I like the truck sketch you did. IT has a lot of character.
It looks similar to one I used to drive at Toronto airport when I was much younger. The one I drove had the hydraulic scissor back for loading the planes. Brings back memories.
That looks like a pretty good book. Thinking about it now, it might have been easier to make it rusty if I was using colour. The paint was pretty faded and the the orange would help to describe the rusty bits. There was a lot of 'bubble rust' on the edge of the door, around the bulge around the wheel and on the front just above the grill. I've made it a black blobby sort of pattern there. I think that the overall extra 'scribblyness' helps it look decayed.
